Variety the spice of restaurant life
If variety is the spice of life, this new restaurant may have the recipe for success.
Sapori, the just opened eatery at newly renovated Grape Bay Beach Hotel in Paget, is ready for business - and choice shouldn't be an issue with a menu offering sushi, steaks, sandwiches, salads and much more.
The poolside restaurant, which officially opened its doors on Monday on the premises of the revamped former White Sands Hotel, also boasts a fully-stocked bar, state-of-the-art espresso machine, pizza oven and outdoor grill.
Owner Odeli Angeli, the already established Bermuda restaurateur behind Primavera on Pitts Bay Road and Rustico in Flatts, said "neighbourhood research" showed that what people really wanted was "a little of everything".
In a word, Mr. Angeli said Sapori - a name that translates from Italian as flavours - was serving up cuisine best described as "fusion". And he hopes to attract a diverse crowd of both locals and visitors to Sapori - the restaurant can accommodate 70 diners indoors and another 30 on outside terraces.
Ultimately the restaurant veteran - Mr. Angeli first came to the Island 17 years ago after meeting and falling in love with his Bermudian wife while the two were working on a cruise ship - said the restaurant aimed to deliver good food, good service and value for money.
And there to deliver on those promises is a team led by Sapori manager Jon Pedro, a Bermudian with 13 years of restaurant experience under his belt, and in the kitchen, a staff of seasoned professionals including a master sushi chef from Singapore and another from Dubai who specialises in Thai cuisine.
So, what might a night out at Sapori cost you? By estimate, Mr. Angeli said a couple having dinner could expect to pay $40 per person for appetiser, main course and a mid-range ($30 ballpark) bottle of wine.
Dress for the restaurant, open for lunch, dinner and take-out service, is smart casual.
