Walker Christopher expands

Walker Christopher has opened a second store in the Emporium Building on Front Street, expanding its offering of custom-made jewellery to offer a wide selection of sculpture designs.

The new store operates at the former Desmond Fountain Gallery but now customers can feast their eyes on solid bronze sculptures with a distinct Island motif with frog and Frangipani designs among items adorning display cases.

?Walker Christopher has a very good and loyal clientele both locals and overseas visitors but there are always new residents who don?t know the store?s reputation and many visitors haven?t made it to our main store at 9 Front Street,? Walker Christopher sales manager Brittany Wivell said.

?Our main shop has quite a range of merchandise, so the Emporium shop will allow us to focus on our historically popular items such as shipwreck coin jewellery and the Bermuda inspired pieces we manufacture.

Ms Wivell said the store opened last week wants to highlight some new innovative designers who are producing unconventional work. Jewellery lines being carried at the Emporium store include Antonio Bernardo of Brazil, Denny Wong of Hawaii, Rina Young of New York and many others from all over the world. ?We don?t buy all the jewellery from other designers and manufacturers as we make an extensive amount of our own jewellery but when we do buy from overseas designers, we buy things that are unique.?

There will also be a number of designs using natural materials such as shells, coral, mother of pearl and wood.

Ms Wivell said people who are drawn to Walker Christopher designs have an appreciation for art beyond jewellery.

?If Walker Christopher has a brand or image which is eclectic and individualistic and that is why the store does well selling other items such as sculpture because our main customers have an appreciation of well crafted and beautiful things in general.?

?We are not interested in the jewellery items trendy or popular this year because you can get them every year else and Bermudians don?t like to wear what everyone else has.?
