Entertainer Tony Brannon has put his home studio up for sale — lock, stock and barrel.

For $125,000 the singer and musician is prepared to part with the state-of-the-art Blue Clouds recording studio that was created only two years ago.

One thing he does not intend to do is to break up the studio and sell it off as separate items. He wants it to remain as a single unit. If there is no outright buyer he will keep the studio himself, although it is looking increasingly likely that it will be moved to a new location, possibly overseas.

Mr. Brannon and his wife Kay have put their home up for sale and while nothing is yet set in stone, the option of leaving Bermuda to start a new life somewhere else is one that has not been ruled out.

Since the late 1970s Mr. Brannon has been involved in the tourism and entertainment business, firstly helping to run the 40 Thieves — later Disco 40 — on Front Street, before venturing out as a musician in his own right and most recently being a key figure in the marketing and entertainment side of the Hawkins Island summer season events.

It was two years ago when he moved into his new home near Gibbs Hill Lighthouse that Mr. Brannon, 55, created a purpose built home recording studio, which features a singing booth, drum kit and digital amplification, recording and mixing station.

As he re-assesses his options and looks to relocate, either within Bermuda or overseas, he has decided to place the entire studio on the open market to gauge interest.

In the week since the sale was announced there has been interest to buy portions of the equipment, but Mr. Brannon is sticking to his intention of selling it as a single job although he would also consider a 50/50 partnership deal.

By his own reckoning the total value of the studio equipment is around $146,000. It includes copying equipment to produce and reproduce recordings directly onto CDs.

“The house is for sale so we have to move the studio. I want to see if there is any interest at all,” said Mr. Brannon.

He believes the studio can be taken apart and re-assembled within a matter of days.

“Someone could be up and running and making records in two days. It has all the latest software and everything is converted to digital sound,” he said.

In Bermuda there are a few individuals with the capability to record in small studios using computers, there is the Just Platinum professional studio, which Mr. Brannon considers to be the most advanced on the Island, and there is his own Blue Clouds studio which he views as the best private studio around.

In the two years he has been running the studio he has recorded music for his own Hawkins Island entertainment group Tropical Heat, he has just finished recording an album with artist Pancho and, in the past couple of weeks, recorded an environmental anthem for Bermuda entitled “This is Crazy” for a group called The Lizards.

In his own experience it has become harder and harder to make a living as a musician in Bermuda. During the late 1980s, Mr. Brannon played with international star Maxi Priest, otherwise his musical career has been confined to Bermuda.

He will always be a musician, whether he sells the studio or not, he states.

“I’ve decided that I’m not going to sell off the studio piecemeal. I don’t have to sell it, I could ship it and take it to wherever I’m going to be next,” he said.

However, serious buyers interested in obtaining the entire studio, a package that includes the recording and mixing desk, speakers, hardware and software, microphones, drum machine, keyboards and even a “whisper room” vocal recording booth can visit www.bluecloudsstudios.com.
