<Bz26>Golar profit more than triples

LONDON (Bloomberg) — Bermuda-based Golar LNG Ltd., an owner of liquefied-gas tankers controlled by Norwegian billionaire John Fredriksen, said fourth-quarter profit more than tripled to a record as its vessels worked for more days and at better rates.Net income rose to $33.1 million, from $10.2 million a year earlier, the company said yesterday in a statement. Sales increased to $72.7 million from $45.2 million.

Liquefied natural gas may deliver 31 percent of global gas by 2010 as production surges, according to a report by PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, the world’s biggest accounting firm. LNG is gas cooled to liquid form for transportation to places unconnected by pipelines, where it is reconverted back into gas. Golar’s vessels made an average of $65,250 a day in the period, compared with $47,840 in the last three months of 2005.
