More international businesses and funds want to come here
Bermuda's appeal as a jurisdiction continues to gather strength.
That was the message from recent business gatherings in Paris and Geneva, according to Bermuda International Business Association (BIBA) chief executive officer Cheryl Packwood.
BIBA hosted a well-attended presentation last week in Paris, bringing together key individuals from global professional services and financial firms located in the French capital to discuss the Island's growing role in the global economy.
Ms Packwood delivered a presentation to an audience of top lawyers, accountants and financial professionals outlining Bermuda's influence in the international business community and the key business opportunities in all sectors.
The Paris event was preceded by the visit of a combined BIBA and Bermuda Monetary Authority delegation to the MARHedge 12th Annual European Conference on Alternative Investments in Geneva.
"Judging from the warm reception and reactions BIBA received at these two events, it is clear that the international business community appreciates the dedication to professional quality and execution that characterises Bermuda," Ms Packwood said.
"Thousands of international companies and funds are already registered on the Island, and we are poised to grow even further should the success of Paris and Geneva come to a head, as we hope, in the near future.
"Indeed, Europe is on the verge of expansion and these first contacts place Bermuda in a nice position to start picking up business in the hedge fund, captive and insurance sectors, in particular. There was enormous interest in these areas in Paris. Follow up for us will be critical."
The Paris reception, organised solely by BIBA with the support of its member companies, included a comprehensive presentation on the history and evolution of Bermuda in the global economic arena, with attention to banking, trusts, funds, e-commerce and telecommunications, insurance and the services industry.
"Our experience here is a clear indication that global business leaders understand the overwhelming benefits of being associated with Bermuda," Ms Packwood said.
"We hope to see our Island's reputation as a great place to do business continue to flourish and grow."
