<Bt-1z27>Banks lift BSX Index

The Royal Gazette/Bermuda Stock Exchange (BSX) Index rose for a second day as two banks gained.Bermuda Commercial Bank Ltd. (BCB) saw its share price climb by 50 cents (5.9 percent) to $9 as 10,000 of its shares traded.And 401 Butterfield Bank Ltd. shares changed hands, helping the price to rise by 50 cents (0.9 percent) to $57. The Argus Group Ltd. dropped 50 cents (3.4 percent) to $14, as 1,200 of the insurer and pension provider's shares traded.

The Royal Gazette/Bermuda Stock Exchange Index closed unchanged following light trading yesterday.

The only issue to see activity was Argus Group Holdings Ltd, which remained unchanged on $14 after 500 shares were traded.

Over the week, the Index saw a modest rise, climbing 23.14 points (0.47 percent) to close at 4,881.66.

Bermuda Commercial Bank was the biggest climber over the five days, jumping 9.1 percent (75 cents) to finish at $9, after 18,000 shares traded.

Belco Holdings Ltd. also saw substantial activity, as 23,250 of its shares traded and the energy provider’s stock price dipped by 4.35 percent ($1) to $22.

Butterfield Bank Ltd. climbed 50 cents to $57, as 10,577 of its shares traded over the week.

And the sale of 2,000 Bermuda Aviation Services Ltd. shares helped boost its value by five cents to $6.30. Argus climbed 25 cents to close the week at $14, on the sale of 2,500 shares.

Volume for the week was 57,097 shares and turnover totalled $1,347,227.75.
