<Bz27>Banks lift BSX Index

The Royal Gazette/Bermuda Stock Exchange rose 22.93 points yesterday on trading of shares in Butterfield Bank and the Bermuda Commercial Bank (BCB), but ended the week overall slightly down.

Yesterday, 9,400 shares worth $287,800 changed hands as the Index closed on 4,878.67, up 0.47 percent for the day.

The banks were the only two issues to move, with BCB rising $1.25 to close at $9.25 on sale of 5,100 shares, while Butterfield Bank's share price rose by 25 cents to close at $56.50, as 4,300 of its shares were traded.

There was light trading throughout the week, with a total of 26,887 shares worth $644,987.75 changing hands over the five days, as the Index fell 1.18 points.

Argus Group Holdings Ltd. rose 75 cents to end the week at $13.75, while BCB's Friday rise saw it end the week up $1.25. But BELCO Holdings was the one issue to fall this week, dropping $2 to close at $23.
