<Bz37>BSX unscathed during week of turmoil
The Royal Gazette Bermuda Stock Exchange (BSX) proved immune to the turmoil which hit global markets, as it ended Friday virtually unchanged for the week.
In five days of light trading, 16,491 shares changed hands and turnover was $719,314.20. The BSX Index closed down 5.95 points (0.12 percent) on 4,994.10.
Belco Holdings Ltd. was the only stock to advance, adding 50 cents (2.17 percent) to close on $23.50, as 200 shares traded.
Bermuda Aviation Services Ltd. was the biggest faller, losing 20 cents (3.08 percent) to close on $6.30. A total of 1,800 BAS shares changed hands after the company announced this week it was to have an 80 percent stake in a new joint venture with global elevator giant Otis, which will be called Otis Bermuda.
By far the most traded issue, for the second successive week, was Butterfield Bank, which saw 11,229 shares change hands. The Bank’s share price dipped by 25 cents (0.43 percent) to close on $57.50.
Insurer BF&M Ltd. was unchanged on $18.25 after 3,000 shares traded last week.
