PASSAU, Germany (Bloomberg) — European Central Bank President Jean- Claude Trichet said it's up to Chinese officials to quicken the appreciation of their currency after he spent two days in Beijing this week pushing for a stronger yuan.
"It's up to the Chinese to do what they think is appropriate," Trichet said at a conference in Passau, Germany, yesterday. "I don't want to prejudge what may be done."
Trichet, along with Luxembourg Prime Minister Jean-Claude Juncker and European Union Monetary Affairs Commissioner Joaquin Almunia met Chinese leaders this week to push a faster "pace of appreciation" of the yuan to Chinese leaders.
