Electric bikes set to drive new Gorham's and goGreen deal

Green machine: Gorham's general manager Andrew Mackay wipes off one of the two types of electric bikes that the Pembroke hardware store has for sale.

Cutting down on the use of fossil fuels is the focus for a new partnership launched between hardware store Gorhams and goGreen.bm

The deal, which brings together the resources of both companies, will see goGreen help reduce the dependency on such fuels and, through its association with Gorhams, will be able to bring items to market which have already been evaluated for environmentally friendliness to Bermuda, according to goGreen's Timothy Miller.

"Our first venture is the selling of EVT electric scooters and we have extensively tested them on Bermuda's roads over the past 18 months and are extremely happy with their performance and reliability," he said.

The new range of EVT bikes currently for sale at Gorhams now have the battery charger already on board allowing the bikes to be connected directly to a regular 110 volt power outlet and goGreen is confident that the proven track record of these bikes and with Gorham's support for a greener environment it will be able to encourage more people to adopt this new technology for Bermuda's roads.

Andrew Mackay, general manager of Gorham's is also excited with the initial comments from customers about this positive move Gorham's has taken.

"The partnership shows our growing concern for our endangered environment and the global impacts that are currently being seen," he said. "We are determined to make our island a little greener place through this and other future planned initiatives."

Gorham's commitment to going green is further seen through the numerous other products they already offer, from environmentally safe cleaners to organic potting mix and even CFL light bulbs.

• In celebration of Earth Day 2008 on April 22 all Gorhams employees will be wearing Earth Day T-shirts and will feature for the week an eco-friendly products sale to support the event.
