Home Show attracts 2,000-plus people
More than 2,000 people flocked to the Coldwell Banker Home Show on Saturday to learn virtually every imaginable aspect of home ownership.
Fifty-eight exhibitors filled 81 booths on two floors of No.1 Shed on Front Street, offering ideas and advice on everything from financing to landscaping, from furniture to electrical appliances.
Coldwell Banker Bermuda Realty corporate services manager Kendra Mello said by 2 p.m. counters on the doors had already totted up more than 2,000 visitors.
"If you include our preview show on Friday, then the number is more like 3,000," Ms Mello said. "This is our sixth year and when we started in 2002, we just used the Harbour Room (upstairs at No.1 Shed). Now it's expanded into what you see today."
The diverse range of businesses represented included eight building supplies firms, four banks, two landscapers, four air-conditioning companies and four telecommunications firms.
The property market may have cooled off, in terms of the sharp price rises evident in recent years, but the busy aisles on Saturday showed that interest in property among the Island's population is as keen as ever.
"Proprty prices have levelled off, but we have not seen a decline," Ms Mello said. "We have a healthy inventory of properties available, both houses and condominiums, and there is lots of activity on the market.
"At the moment, the average price we are seeing for a house is $958,000 and the average condo price is around $775,000. There is a lot of supply and a lot of interest."
Sousa's Landscaping Management Company won the award for the best booth in show with an impressive display, entailing running water, tiling and greenery.
Ms Mello said the diverse range of companies and the services they offered was impressive.
"These 58 companies are all Bermudian companies," Ms Mello said. "It's incredible what we have to offer to the market."
