Ingersoll expects to beat the analysts

NEW YORK (AP) - Bermuda-based Ingersoll-Rand Co. said it expects full-year earnings from continuing operations to come in above analysts' estimates.

The diversified manufacturer still anticipates 2008 net income in a range of $3.80 to $3.90 per share for Ingersoll-Rand and air conditioner maker Trane Inc. on a combined pro-forma basis, according to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission yesterday. The estimate excludes one-time inventory and restructuring costs.

Analysts surveyed by Thomson Financial predict 2008 profit of $3.69 per share. Estimates typically exclude one-time items.

Ingersoll-Rand is expected to close on its Trane purchase by the end of May.

The company also reaffirmed full-year sales of $9.4 billion for Ingersoll-Rand and 2008 pro forma revenue of $14.2 billion for Ingersoll-Rand and Trane combined. Consensus estimates put full-year revenue at $14.39 billion.
