Insurance leads way

Insurance was the big winner on The Royal Gazette/Bermuda Stock Exchange Index (BSX) yesterday, with both BF&M Ltd. and Argus Holdings Ltd. seeing their respective share prices soar.

Following its 10-for-one stock split, BF&M Ltd. rose $1.50 (7.3 percent) to close at $21.95, with 200 shares traded.

Meanwhile, Argus increased by 25 cents (1.4 percent) to $17.75, as 10,800 shares changed hands.

MediaHouse Ltd. - eight percent PFD was also up 50 cents (12.5 percent) at $4.50, with 200 shares traded.

Butterfield Bank also saw its share value climb 20 cents (1.1 percent) to finish on $18.20, as 37,248 shares were transacted.

Other traders included Bermuda Aviation Services Ltd. (5,700 shares) and Watlington Waterworks Ltd. (200), but their share prices remained unchanged by the activity.

Overall, the Index was up 66.52 points (1.28 percent) at 5,264.61, with a total of 54,348 shares worth $910,804 traded.

The BSX Insurance Index, however dropped 1.63 percent to close at 1,082.02.
