Minister gives update on Bermuda's space progress
An update on Bermuda's progress in the arena of satellite slots and regulation at least had some of the hallmarks of a US Space Shuttle launch.
First the press conference was on, then it was off, then it was on.
Twenty-four hours after cancelling, Attorney General Phillip Perinchief's press conference finally took off.
He said: "In parallel with our efforts to develop these internationally recognised orbital resources, we worked hard to develop a regulatory framework allowing Bermuda companies to make international notices through the International Telecommunications Union.
"These new satellite network co-ordination and notification regulations entered into force on November 23.
"The new regulations describe the requirements which Bermuda companies must meet, and the procedures which must be followed when preparing to establish and operate their own satellite networks.
"They also stipulate how the Ministry for the Environment, Telecommunications and e-Commerce will licence Bermuda companies to operate here.
"The regulations formalise current procedures and are consistent with international best practice."
