State Farm gets 2,500 tornado claims
NEW YORK (Bloomberg) — State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Co., the largest US home and auto insurer, said it received claims from at least 2,500 policyholders related to the tornadoes that struck the US this week.
The claims are from Tennessee and Kentucky, said Fraser Engerman, a spokesman for the Bloomington, Illinois-based insurer. Totals weren't immediately available from other states, he said.
The tornadoes were the deadliest in the country since 1985, when twisters tore through Ohio and Pennsylvania destroying homes and killing 59 people.
Farmers Insurance Group reported about 650 claims on homes, cars and commercial property, more than half of them from Texas, said Jerry Davies, a spokesman for the company, a unit of Zurich Financial Services AG. The company also had about 170 claims from Tennessee and 125 from Arkansas, he said.
Allstate Corp., the second-largest US home and auto insurer, hasn't yet released claims totals, said spokesman Mike Siemienas.
