Yahoo goes Latino
BEIJING (Bloomberg) - Yahoo! Inc., competing with Google Inc. to attract Internet traffic on wireless devices, will offer its search engine to mobile-phone users in Latin America, building on an expansion in Europe and Asia.
Wireless customers in Argentina, Brazil and Mexico will have access to Yahoo's OneSearch search engine, the company said yesterday in a statement. Yahoo announced earlier today that carriers in India, Malaysia, Indonesia, Hong Kong and Singapore will also offer OneSearch, more than doubling its contracts in Asia.
Yahoo, owner of the most popular US website, is making deals with wireless carriers to generate advertising revenue from mobile searches.
Telefonica SA, Spain's largest phone company, agreed to make OneSearch the main search engine on its mobile phones in October, offering it to as many as 100 million customers in Europe.
