ACE looks for new chief financial officer
Christopher Marshall will become assistant to the chairman at ACE as soon as a successor is named to succeed him as the company's chief financial officer, where he has had primary responsibility for ACE's financial operations for fifteen years.
In his new position Mr. Marshall will be free to work on special projects designated by the chairman, Brian Duperrault, including merger and acquisition activity and other corporate initiatives. His replacement as chief financial officer is being sought by an executive search firm retained by ACE.
Mr. Marshall said, "I have been with ACE since its inception. The fact is that ACE has become increasingly complex and the daily demands of the CFO position have restricted the amount of time that I have been able to spend on both the company's long term strategic planning as well as on my own personal responsibilities.'' HWP HWP Group has made a commitment to become accredited as an Investors in People organisation. The announcement was made by Jonathan Brewin, president and CEO of the car group on Wednesday.
He said: "I am extremely proud and please that together with my senior management team, HWP has now signed our commitment to be part of such a magnificent project that will not only benefit our staff and customers, but Bermuda in general.'' HWP has already completed an initial study to join up, and has identified a number of measures it needs to take to comply with Investment in People standards.
Investment in People is a UK training scheme which has just opened up in Bermuda. Its aim is to improve performance by training staff and "investing in people''.
ABERFELDY NURSERY Aberfeldy Nursery has gone into a joint venture with local artist Tracy Harris.
The nursery took on a batch of Harris' hand painted pots last week, and due to the success of the venture, has taken a second order which will arrive today.
Aberfeldy said: "A common love of gardening has brought together a local plant nursery and a local artist. Although Tracy from By Hand has been painting plant pots for years, her recent passion for roses has brought them together with the staff at Aberfeldy Nursery.'' AS&K Appleby Spurling and Kempe, Bermuda's largest law firm, has a new bonus for its clients -- they can now earn frequent flier miles with American Airlines when they register a trade mark, service mark, patent or industrial design with the firm in Bermuda.
Warren Cabral, head of AS&K's intellectual property, information technology and e-commerce team, made the announcement earlier this week.
"We are delighted to announce this programme, which I am certain will be very popular with both our existing clients and with prospective clients,'' he said.
"American Airlines has always offered its customers `something special in the air' and now AS&K can offer our clients `something special on the ground' as well.'' Clients will earn 1,000 AAdvantage Programme frequent flier miles for every new registration of a trade mark, service mark, patent or industrial design.
Renewals of existing documents will get 500 frequent flier miles. The miles will be given in the form of a voucher which can be redeemed by American Airlines.
Any companies which have bars on incentives will have the airmiles donated to American Airlines' Miles for Kids in Need programme. For more information see www.ask.bm.
