Bissell has it all figured out!: Ex-Assistant Police Commissioner turns to
Recently retired assistant commissioner of Police Alan J. Bissell has a new job in a new industry; he has been appointed executive director of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bermuda . An ICAB spokesman said the Institute "looks forward to him bringing his many years of administrative experience to his new position''.
As assistant commissioner, Mr. Bissell was responsible for all operational areas of the Police Service and prior to that he was in charge of administration/management support, including finance, recruiting and training.
Mr. Bissell had been with the Service since 1965, also serving in CID and attending numerous courses abroad and graduating from the Ontario and Canadian Police Colleges and Banff Management Centre. He holds a business management BA from the University of Maryland and a Masters in education. In 1998 he won the Queen's Colonial Police Medal.
*** MARKETING CHALLENGE APP Marketing challenge The Bank of Butterfield yesterday announced Karla Lacey-Minors has joined the company as vice president of marketing & corporate communications. Her responsibilities include the initiation, development, and control of the Bank of Butterfield Group's marketing, advertising and promotional strategies as well as internal communications. Prior to joining the bank Ms Lacey-Minors held the position of assistant vice president of corporate communications at BTC for three years.
*** FROM TAX TO PENSIONS APP From tax to pensions Seasoned civil servant Rose-Ann Maxwell Stovell , CA, has been appointed CEO of the newly-formed Pensions Commission. She is currently senior tax accountant in the Tax Commissioner's office and worked with Government on possible Y2K problems.
"It is Mrs. Maxwell Stovell's understanding of the payroll tax system and compliance activities that has a strong correlation to the functions of the Pension Commission in ensuring compliance with the National Pensions Scheme (Occupational Pensions) Act 1998,'' chairman Roger Titterton said.
*** LOSCHERT CHANGES ROLES APP Loschert changes roles ACE Global Markets chairman William Loschert moves from an executive role to a non-executive role from today. The company said he will be non-executive chairman of ACE Underwriting Agencies Ltd., the managing agency for ACE's single syndicate, Syndicate 2488, for the 2000 account.
"Bill is one of our original employees, having joined the company in 1986,'' ACE chairman, president and CEO Brian Duperreault said, noting he would continue to count on his insight and expertise. "He has played a pivotal role in ACE's growth and development both in Bermuda and in London, and has been an integral part of the team that helped rebuild ACE into the global organisation it is today.'' ACE Global Markets CEO John Charman added Mr. Loschert was appointed to the Council of Lloyd's in January 1999.
"Bill has decided to devote more time to activities outside the insurance industry. However, we are delighted that he has agreed to continue in a non-executive capacity, which will involve his continued participation on a number of Lloyd's committees.'' *** WINNICK APPOINTMENT APP Winnick appointment Global Crossing Ltd. said yesterday it named its founder and co-chairman, Gary Winnick as chairman of the Bermuda-based company planning to build an undersea telecommunications network. Winnick has been serving as co-chairman with Mr.
Lodwrick Cook who will retain his role as co-chairman.
"Global Crossing wouldn't exist without the vision and dynamic leadership that Gary has provided,'' said Mr. Cook.
Winnick led the company's initial public offering in August 1998.
