Churches join up for conference
Resort for the opening of the second annual "Unity of the Spirit'' conference.
Sponsored by the ecumenical Coalition of Churches, the conference is to use findings from last year's event as a springboard for Christian unity in Bermuda.
"We're going to go down there and have a good time,'' head of the Coalition Rev. Dr. Goodwin Smith said earlier this week. "No doubt some of the issues from last year will come up.'' The executive committee is made up of Rev. Malcolm Eve, presiding elder of the African Methodist Church, Bishop Robert Kurtz, Roman Catholic Bishop of Hamilton, Rev. Vernon Lambe, general overseer of the First Church of God and Rev. Neville Smith, Pastor of the Radnor Road Christian Fellowship.
Rev. Smith will lead a workshop today on financial freedom and Rev. Lambe will speak on family life and the role of marriage.
Ismay Cartwright will discuss "Seductive Spiritual Snakes'' while Sharon Apopa will lead a workshop entitled "Toward Societal Unity Part Two''.
Today and tomorrow there will be workshops from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. and a banquet on Saturday night featuring a US contemporary Gospel group "Total Praise''.
Children and young adults will conduct their own parallel conference with workshops and a banquet tomorrow.
This morning there will be an Intercessory Prayer from 6 a.m. to 7 a.m. and a Spiritual Charge and Instruction Session from 9.30 a.m. to 10 a.m.
A Worship Service last night and tonight night were to feature talks by Baltimore-based speaker Dr. Clarence Walker.
Premier Jennifer Smith attended a reception and worship service at 7.30 p.m.
