Learning to manage hazardous waste
learned to manage Bermuda's hazardous waste.
They recently completed a three-week hazardous waste management seminar held by Works and Engineering.
The training was conducted by representatives from US-based Republic Environmental Systems.
And while the first two days consisted of in-class lectures, this was followed by one day of practical training at the proposed hazardous waste facility at Sallyport in Dockyard.
At Sallyport demonstrations centred around the use of safety equipment and the containerisation of hazardous waste.
Topics covered included the characteristics of hazardous waste, chemical reactions of these wastes, health and safety, and the labelling and shipment of hazardous wastes to the US.
Works and Engineering said they were very pleased with the overall success of the exercise and the level of participation and interest.
Those participating were employees from the Environment Ministry, the Department of Marine and Ports, Agriculture, Fisheries & Parks, the Education Ministry, the Bermuda Fire Service, Bermuda College, and the Bermuda Biological Station.
