The Royal Gazette conducted an informal survey of the airlines which fly to the New York area from Bermuda to determine what their respective baggage

*** Continental Airlines -- to Newark Airport. Restrictions are two pieces not to exceed 70 pounds each. The first may not be more than 62 lineal inches* and the second may not exceed 65 lineal inches. Extra pieces cost $45 unless they are above these guidelines when they cost $90. Baggage over 100 pounds must be sent airfreight. One carry on less than 45 lineal inches and 40 pounds allowed.

*** US Airways -- to LaGuardia Airport with a connection in either Philadelphia or Baltimore. Restrictions are two pieces not to exceed 70 pounds each. The first may not be more than 62 lineal inches and the second may not exceed 65 lineal inches. Extra pieces cost $90 each and cannot exceed 55 lineal inches and 70 pounds. There is no restriction on checking in boxes. One carry on less than 45 lineal inches and 40 pounds allowed.

*** American Airlines -- to New York's John F Kennedy Airport. Restrictions are three bags less than 62 lineal inches and 70 pounds each. One carry on less than 45 lineal inches and 40 pounds allowed. No boxes or oversized bags allowed.

* -- lineal inches are length plus width plus height.
