Train runs out of steam
during the winter due to poor passenger loads. But the company's general manager Geoffrey Gibbons said yesterday it would be back on track by summer.
Suzanne DeCouto , who was managing the Hamilton train business, is also no longer with the company, he confirmed.
"It was successful, but not a booming success in its first season,'' Mr.
Gibbons admitted. "But obviously with the first year of operation you have startup costs and teething problems. We've learned a lot.
"We see it as a seasonal business with there being the off-season and no cruise ships in the winter-time.'' He added the company was doing loads of 150-200 passengers per day.
When the train starts up again the basic point A-B fare will remain at $2, he said, but the fare for a city tour would go up to $15. Mr. Gibbons noted the train was proving popular for private functions such as cocktail and kids' parties, transport to corporate functions at venues such as the BUEI and even for local weddings. The Company's Dockyard train is not being retired for the winter.
