The Trustworthy Shop on Queen Street will close after a search for a new home failed.

National Trust director Amanda Outerbridge said the lease agreement expires at the end of the year and they will have to move out as the building is earmarked for renovations.

"We have spent the last several months looking for a location in Hamilton, but we haven't been able to find anything suitable or affordable,'' he said.

"It is a real shame but retail space is at a premium.'' The trust has had its shop for three years and each year it has donated at least $25,000 to the charity.

Ms. Outerbridge said they had considered trying to find space inside a department store, but even that had been ruled out because of a lack of opportunities.

She said they would continue to try and sell National Trust items.
