Agile and Sustain add splash to slow week on local docks

It's been quiet on the waters around the Island with only two ships coming to unload cargo and one scheduled for later in the week.

But beginning next week things will begin to pick up as the Black Rose -- the first cruise ship of the year -- comes to visit.

The Oleander came in last Sunday and left with the tide yesterday morning but not before dropping its load at the docks.

It brought 151 containers to the Island, 31 refrigerated and 120 dry.

It was also carrying 12 cars and a bobcat loader.

Somers Isles stopped by on its regular Monday run after making the trip for Florida. It brought in 71 containers of which four were refrigerated. Somers Isles will be off again on Thursday.

Loose cargo consisted of two trucks for commercial use, five fuel tanks and 24 bundles of steel and lumber.

On the same day the Bermuda Islander is expected to arrive from Salem, New Jersey, carrying 91 containers, 13 refrigerated, and three trailers. She is expected to set sail on Friday.

Meanwhile Sustain remains tied-up at Dockyard along with Agile , a Barbados registered cable ship which arrived on January 31 and is expected to be here for a while.

It was working in the Pacific ocean when it was asked to come and take the place of Sir Eric Sharp , which is in dry dock being repaired.

The 139-metre long Agile also picked up a load of telephone and data wire from the Cable and Wireless depot in Dockyard. It is expected that Agile will be around for another three to four weeks.
