A woman, who was near the Airport, called The Royal Gazette to report the slick which she said was running from the Airport dump into Castle Harbour.
But Marine Police Insp. Stephen Petty said the slick was nothing to worry about.
"It is a very, very light sheen,'' he said. "It has come from the dumping of cars. They try to clean up the cars. But there is always a bit of oil remaining.'' Insp. Petty said the oil would eventually dissipate along the rocks.
"The problem is when you put dispersants on it,'' he said. "When there is a light sheen like this, there is no need for a clean-up. It does not harm anything.
"It may affect boats in the area, but it can be easily removed.''
