Conference reflects corporate backing for insurance market
Another example of the corporate support provided to the Bermuda insurance marketing effort is in evidence at this week's annual conference of the American Society for Healthcare Risk Management (ASHRM) in San Diego.
ASHRM delegates who visit the Bermuda booth will be eligible for a prize draw for two round trip air tickets to Bermuda and a four-day stay at a top vacation resort.
The prize is sponsored by USAIR, PriceWaterhouseCoopers and Marriott's Castle Harbour Hotel.
PriceWaterhouseCoopers partner Richard C. Patching, who is attending the event, said, "Bermuda's success in attracting new business of this sort in recent years is directly related to the profile that has been created for the Island at ASHRM.
"We know from past experience that this sort of prize acts as a magnet to the Bermuda booth. Our hope is that in attracting people to the booth, we can make them aware of Bermuda's interest in the healthcare business and its unique advantages compared with other jurisdictions.'' He added, "While in the past, we have been strong advocates of Bermuda's involvement at ASHRM and have consistently supported its marketing efforts there, this is our first opportunity to directly sponsor the Bermuda market's activities.'' The Bermuda insurance industry's presence at ASHRM is organised by the IAC marketing committee, whose tactical marketing responsibilities include the annual RIMS event and generic participation at other international conferences.
The Bermuda team includes Bermuda's Inspector of Companies Jeremy Cox, Skandia International president Nicholas Dove, Bank of Butterfield senior manager banking Pell Price, Appleby, Spurling & Kempe partner Kenneth Robinson and associate Brian Patterson, Aon Intermediaries vice president Nick Moore, president of Aon Insurance Managers (Bermuda) Ltd. Alan Cossar, the market's director of information services Roger Scotton and Mr. Patching.
ASHRM is a body that represents more than 2,000 North American risk management professionals working in the US healthcare sector.
There will be 35 sessions, educational forums, special interest group workshops and seminars attached to the conference theme of "Riding the Waves of Technology.'' BUSINESS BUC
