Education forum to be held today
come to grips with the realities of public schools, their purpose, and how they can be improved.
Donald Anderson, former dean of the College of Education at the University of Ohio, will be the moderator at the Bermuda Chapter of Phi Delta Kappa's public education forum to be held today at Cathedral Hall from 9 a.m. to noon.
The forum, which is free and open to all, will be the first in Bermuda for Dr.
Anderson.
But neither the organisation nor Dr. Anderson are strangers to such forums. He has conducted some 40 around the US and Canada for Phi Delta Kappa.
However, Dr. Anderson said such forums had allowed good dialogue between those in schools and the general community.
And he said they often showed that there were much more similarities than differences in opinion about education.
Local Phi Delta Kappa member and principal Beverley Daniels noted that the primary goal of the organisation was to promote education.
Several roundtable discussions, each with a facilitator, will be held during the forum.
"We hope the dialogue will be honest and open and that there will be no political agendas,'' Mrs. Daniels said.
The chapter expects to forward its forum report to the Education Ministry by the end of April.
