Global Crossing hunts for Bermudian staff

Now that its initial public offering has been issued the company plans on substantially beefing up its presence on the Island.
The company will base its operations, administration and maintenance support centres in Bermuda according to a US Securities and Exchange Commission document.
Yesterday, the company advertised a job fair for August 24 at the Hamilton Princess Hotel beginning at 5:30 p.m. The Bermuda-based company is looking for network technicians, shift supervisors, cable system support specialists, cable administrators, information systems specialists, customer support specialists and related technical employees.
The company currently has employees at Wessex House on Reid Street. In addition to listing on the Nasdaq stock exchange the company also plans on making a secondary listing on the Bermuda Stock Exchange.
Global Crossing's backers are betting billions of dollars on the future of international telecommunications growth. The company is laying a worldwide network of digital fibre optic cable systems -- including a link through Bermuda -- so as to sell capacity to international telecommunications companies.
