Govt. seeks Boston Northwest link
providing a daily non-stop service between Bermuda and Boston.
Northwest Air would replace the present USAir link, which is temporarily discontinuing the service next spring.
In a press release Tourism Minister David Dodwell said: "It is important to note that USAir is not abandoning the Bermuda-Boston market and will continue to service the Island via Philadelphia, Baltimore, Charlotte, and New York, (Laguardia).'' Mr. Dodwell said USAir's decision to cut the Bermuda/Boston run was based on current "business exigencies'' being faced by airline. He added the airline has assured him that if current circumstances change they would consider reinstating the service.
"There are many developments taking place with the major carriers on the north-east corridor, particularly with Delta and USAir, that gave some bearing on this development, which is why they have been forced to make this service adjustment,'' said Mr. Dodwell.
Northwest Air is no stranger to the Island. It most recently operated a Bermuda/Boston route from May, 1991, to July, 1994.
