Financial Secretary (International Business) in the Ministry of Finance.

The three-year post was created as a link between the Ministry and the international business sector, according to a press release. Mr. Hughes' duties will include reviewing current policies, preparing briefs, and the drafting Cabinet memoranda. He will also review applications for incorporation and assess Bermuda's position compared to other jurisdictions.

Mr. Hughes, 35, has worked at the Bank of Bermuda since 1982 and held a series of management positions. He ended his career at the bank as manager of the bank's global custody client services.

He is the son of Independent Sen. Walwyn Hughes, the former Financial Secretary. He will begin his new job at the ministry in June.
