Island sees launch of new cargo ship

The Only One ND made her maiden voyage this weekend arriving on Saturday. The 165-foot container ship is owned by business man Neil Inchcup.

The ship has a capacity of 1,040 cubic metres and can carry 475 tonnes or 23, 20-foot containers. It will be available for cargo hire throughout the Caribbean under Wiseway Enterprises/Seamont Line Ltd. The Bermuda home of Only One ND will be Marginal Wharf at Southside.

The Class C ship was built in 1975 and is sailing under a Honduran flag.

Five yachts have braved the March Atlantic so far this month but Harbour Radio expects yachting traffic to pick up towards the end of the month.

On Sunday, the Endeavor arrived from Rhode Island. The 130-foot, J-class sloop is a classic example of a 1930s racing sloop. It is docked off the Hamilton Princess.

There are also two cable ships currently transferring cable at Dockyard. The Agile arrived from Halifax, Nova Scotia on March 6 and the Heimdal arrived last Friday and is now berthed beside it.

On the regular shipping routes, the Somers Isles arrived yesterday morning carrying its largest load ever. The ship came in carrying 140 containers, ten refrigerated containers, one 40-foot container, one excavator, several bundles of lumber and steel and 17 boats. The ship departs tomorrow.

The Bermuda Islander arrived last Thursday carrying 129 containers including 17 refrigerated containers, two 40-footers and one boat.

The Oleander arrived Sunday carrying 116 dry containers, 36 refrigerated containers, two Mafis, one flatbed, nine cars and one boat on a trailer. The Oleander left Bermuda yesterday.

Heavy load: The container vessel Agile arrived at Dockyard last week from Bridgetown.
