Kelly appointed new Governor in Turks and Caicos
Turks and Caicos Islands.
Mr. Kelly left Bermuda in April 1994 going to work as head of the dependent territories section in the West Indian and Atlantic Department of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
It is expected he will take up his new posting towards the end of this month.
He will replace the present Turks and Caicos Governor Martin Bourke who ran into trouble with the Island's Parliament following controversial remarks in an international magazine.
Mr. Bourke alleged that the fight against drugs in the Turks and Caicos was being hampered by a corrupt and incompetent Police force and that the British colony was unstable and lawless.
His comments led to local politicians petitioning the British Government to remove Mr. Bourke -- a request that was turned down.
