Latin American Re chairman and chief executive officer Richard Meyer has also personally pledged $22,000 a year for five years to the Foundation.

The money will be used for the Foundation's scholarships given to Bermudians annually, and for the mentor programme. Latin American Re was established in 1997 and provides traditional and non-traditional multi-line reinsurance.

"The support received from Latin American Re demonstrates the importance companies in Bermuda's expanding insurance market give to the education and training of Bermudians,'' Foundation chairman Brian Hall said.

The foundation is in the process of building a $7.5 million endowment and has received commitments of about $4.4 million. Fifteen Bermudians studying insurance abroad have been awarded scholarships by the Foundation, while 30 are in the mentor programme.
