Left in the dark Pembroke residents promised relief
Cox's Hill residents who have been bothered by frequent power outages can rest assured -- Belco is working on their problem.
In the wake of a letter to the Editor, Belco spokeswoman Robin Sidders yesterday confirmed the company would conduct a thorough search of the overhead wiring throughout Pembroke West to find a fault believed to be causing the outages.
Just last night the power in the neighbourhood went out shortly after 8 p.m.
and Belco was contacted by area residents.
Last week "Enough is Enough'' wrote that on "numerous occasions over the past few months when there has been absolutely no sign of inclement weather or high winds'', Cox's Hill have lost power.
Calling the outages "inexplicable'' the letter writer asked if they were the result of "pre-arranged load shedding'' or if Belco was aware of the problem and what was being done about it.
Mrs. Sidders responded: "We are aware of the recent outages in the Sunset Pass, Sunset View area.
"We have been experiencing transient faults which are not necessarily related to bad weather and which can be difficult to locate. The most recent of these was on Christmas Eve.
"In order to resolve the problems in the area we will be carrying out a comprehensive inspection of the entire circuit -- all the way out to Spanish Point,'' she added.
"What this involves is our overhead lines -- our crew will be walking the entire length of the circuit to locate any faults. We are going to be scheduling that to take place within the next two weeks.'' Mrs. Sidders apologised to area residents, adding that Belco staff, as customers themselves appreciate the inconvenience an interruption of service means to anyone.
Mrs. Sidders explained: "What could have helped was that we could have better communicated that to our customers in the area.'' Cox's Hill has not been subjected to pre-arranged load shedding, Mrs. Sidders added, saying that was "something we do not do''.
"About pre-arranged load shedding, that is something that is done when there is not enough capacity to supply demand, but it is something that we at Belco do not do,'' she said. "In fact, we have plenty of capacity to service the Island.''
