Logic prepares to launch cheaper int'l phone service

Fresh on the heels of Government's decision to allow Internet phoning, Logic Communications announced the "imminent'' launch of its service.

Logic customers surely breathed a sigh of relief as their Internet Service Provider announced LogicPhone could see them placing calls abroad at "a fraction of the traditional rates''.

The service was launched last year but was abruptly postponed after Government threatened criminal charges for allegedly breaching the carrier's licence.

But earlier this month Telecommunications Minister Renee Webb said she would allow Island companies to offer the service which allows customers to use the World Wide Web to make long distance calls.

Logic is the first to throw their hat into the ring in a competition with people potentially able to make calls for the cost of a local call.

Through a press release, Logic announced: "LogicPhone goes live in the coming weeks and consumers are encouraged to register any number of land-based and cellular phone numbers to gain access to LogicPhone service.

"In the meantime, a Web-based pre-registration facility has been established at www.logic.bm. By logging in and leaving their contact information, businesses and consumers can join a priority wait list for service.'' It continued: "It's new. It's different. And it's good news for Bermuda.'' Logic president Neil Speight hailed Ms Webb, saying: "Her June 8 decision now makes it clear that Bermuda may benefit from new technologies that give businesses and consumers cost-effective ways to access world markets.''
