`March' becomes leisurely stroll

prior to the public forum on constitutional change yesterday.

The loosely organised group strolled together toward the building despite a radio report earlier in the day which suggested the party was organising a march to ensure the British representatives at the forum took Opposition perspectives on constitutional change seriously.

ZBM radio reported on its 5 p.m. broadcast yesterday that the UBP was calling for supporters to meet at St. John's Church at 5:30 p.m. and march up to the meeting en masse, but at 5.30 p.m. the parking lot at St. John's was barren.

Among those that gathered at the gates were MPs Kim Young, Dr. Grant Gibbons, Tim Smith and Gary Pitman, but other UBP supporters were already waiting inside the meeting room.

Those making the short leisurely walk to Government House seemed upbeat and made way for other party members who continued to arrive by car.

Dr. Gibbons told The Royal Gazette that no march had been planned and a few people were merely gathering.

The forum was intended to allow the general public to share their views on proposed constitutional changes with visiting Foreign and Commonwealth Officers.

The FCO officials are in Bermuda for four days to consider proposals for change being put forth by the Government which include reducing the number of MPs and redrawing constituency boundaries.
