Max Re signs new reinsurance deal

Chattanooga, Tennessee-based UnumProvident said yesterday the agreement would impact about $195 million of its statutory reserves.
The agreement will see Max Re reinsure a portion of its long duration group, long-term disability claims.
UnumProvident, a disability and specialty risk insurance holding company, said it also entered an agreement with a unit of Swiss Re Life & Health America Inc., under which the unit will provide insurance for about 240,000 UnumProvident policies withstatutory policy reserves at June 30 of about $3.4 billion and annualised statutory premiums of about $180 million.
And Allstate Life Insurance Co. said yesterday it has agreed to acquire Unum Provident unit Provident National Assurance Co. for an undisclosed amount.
Allstate Life Insurance Co. is a unit of Northbrook, Illinois-based Allstate Corp., the nation's largest publicly-held, personal lines insurance company.
