Other Bermudians at the conference were Mr. Lister's brother Allan and motivational speaker Dennis Raheem Watson, who now resides in New York.

The aim of the meeting, which included more than 900 delegates from the US, Jamaica and Europe, was to forge meaningful links between African Americans and Africa.

Mr. Lister said: "The focus of the summit was on building economic bridges and on education to save the children of Africa.

"It was an unparalleled opportunity. There were significant contacts made with world leaders at this global forum and a dialogue and awareness of the need to come together in a meaningful spirit of cooperation and collaboration.'' Ms Cox added: "It was an incredible experience to see and listen to some of the leaders of Africa of whom one had previously only read about.
