NAR host `racism' conference
with an educator from the United Kingdom.
Representatives of the Human Rights Commission, the Bermuda Industrial Union, the Chamber of Commerce and major employers will meet in a closed session with Ms Pamela Brown.
The National Association for Reconciliation, the conference organiser, said yesterday Ms Brown had conducted courses in racial awareness in London, Sheffield and Glasgow.
"She is a young woman, black, Asian,'' an NAR statement said. NAR chairman Sen. Joe Johnson described the session as a "very practical project to address the subject of racism in Bermuda.
"Our purpose is to offer the public in the near future a series of racial awareness courses,'' he said in a formal conference invitation.
"However, we first want considerations from leading organisations and major employers in Bermuda in order to tailor programmes pre-eminently suitable for Bermuda. Your input, therefore, is vital.
"Although there is no open unrest on racism here, we must all be aware that it is grumbling away beneath the surface, and the ideal time to do something about it is now, before any eruption.''
