And the firm hopes to send its 32,753 ton liner Edinburgh Castle to Bermuda at some point in the future.

"While the schedule will focus on overnight vacationers, the itinerary will also provide for periodic cruises of several days to such destinations as Hamilton, Bermuda and Halifax, Nova Scotia,'' a spokesman reported.

However he stressed that this was plan for "down the road''. While the firm would like to offer these cruises, he continued, there were no plans in place yet.

Tourism director Gary Phillips confirmed that he had heard of Manhattan Cruises' plans but stressed that the department had not been approached yet.

"They have not yet made any application for a cruise to Bermuda.'' He pointed out that if the line made an application to visit Bermuda then it would probably be allowed. "I don't see any reason why we would not approve it.'' The liner's maiden overnight voyage left Pier 88 of the New York City Passenger Ship Terminal on January 28.

The 713-foot vessel accommodates 1,000 passengers in 510 cabins and offers fine dining, live entertainment and a full range of shipboard activities including casino gambling when it is in international waters.

Seven overnight cruises will operate each week. They will depart at 7 p.m. and Friday and Saturday cruises will return at 3 p.m. The Sunday through Thursday cruises will return at approximately 8 a.m. the following morning.

Weekend trips cost $199 per person and weekday trips will go for $99 each.

Ticket prices are inclusive of cabin, meals, entertainment and on board facilities.
