Premier to open reinsurance congress
the Washington law firm, Dickstein, Shapiro, Morin & Oshinsky, will be the speaker for today's monthly luncheon at the Adam's Lounge of the Princess Hotel.
Mr. Kleinman, who has been representing interests involved in breast implant litigation, will review emerging liability issues in the US and their likely impact on the Bermuda insurance market.
He is replacing firm partner Jerold Oshinsky, who was originally scheduled to attend.
Mr. Oshinsky was also originally expected to be involved in the tenth International Reinsurance Congress presented by Coopers & Lybrand in association with Hawksmere Plc, which also begins today at the Princess Hotel.
A leading specialist in insurance litigation, Mr. Oshinsky is well known in the insurance industry as a commercial litigator. He is also an author, a lecturer and counsels US clients on insurance matters. Since 1978 he has specialised in representing policyholders in multi-party insurance coverage cases.
Meanwhile, with 221 delegates, the three-day reinsurance congress is to be opened by Premier David Saul and includes a perspective on how the industry has progressed by Michael Butt, president and CEO of Bermuda-based reinsurer Mid Ocean Re.
There will also be discussions on insolvencies, current legal issues, strengthening capital through mergers, acquisitions and capital raising.
Also scheduled are talks on alternatives to traditional reinsurance, insights into the profitable business lines of the next century, the changing role of intermediaries and future challenges for risk managers.
