Reporting firm aims to form company
up business in Bermuda.
Smith Bernal has applied to Government to set up Live Note Reporting (Bermuda) Ltd. -- bringing its revolutionary method of note-taking to the Island.
The company was recently brought in by the Attorney General's Chambers to supply computerised note-taking at a marathon Supreme Court trial -- stopping the need for the Judge to make hand written notes.
At the time Smith Bernal said it was interested in coming to Bermuda and it believes the operation could help bring business to the Island -- through international litigation which settles global disputes between businesses.
According to the application the company wants to supply a range of services including: Court reporting and verbatim transcriptions; Verbatim records of Parliamentary debates -- based on the British Hansard which supplies a verbatim record of what MPs say in Parliament; Legal support services including research, typing and book-keeping; Dealing in computer software; and Graphics and animation displays.
Although the company wants to operate legal and Parliamentary work it is understood that no deal has been signed with the Supreme Court or Government.
Milligan, Whyte and Smith are acting for Smith Bernal.
