Sea Containers ends SeaCat joint venture

Scandinavian-based ColorSeaCat joint venture with Color Line ASA on January 31 because ColorSeaCat's Norwegian ferry routes were unprofitable.

Sea Containers said Oslo-based Color Line, which merged with Larvik Scandi Line ASA in 1995, will operate routes between Norway and Denmark that Larvik Line had already committed to run, contributing to the decision to dissolve ColorSeaCat.

In 1996, ColorSeaCat operated SeaCats ferries on the Langesund, Norway/Frederikshavn, Denmark and Frederikshavn/Gottenburg, Sweden routes. Sea Containers said it would continue to operate the Gothenburg/Frederickshavn route using the SeaCat name, and Color Line will operate the reservation system on the Sweden service.

Sea Containers said it would end use of the ColorSeaCat name and will introduce use of its new 800-passenger, 185-automobile SuperSeaCat service in June. -- Bloomberg
