Stallard beams positive energy: Fitness is his life

1990 was a shining year for Scott Stallard as he was nominated one of "Two Outstanding Young People'' of 1990.

Additionally, he realised a dream and opened his fitness place, The Olympic Club, with partner Nick Jones.

Mr. Stallard needs no introduction as he was born and raised in Bermuda. He attended school in Bermuda, England and the US and graduated from Springfield College, Massachusetts with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education.

He worked as an actor and as a professional model in New York before becoming a film assistant to producer Robert Stigwood.

A self-taught photographer, he has travelled around the world taking pictures which have made him well known internationally.

Today he is the sole owner of The Olympic Club as Mr. Jones has ventured out to become an Olympic sailor and news journalist.

"I feel I always need a focus and I enjoy all of my work, my work with the club, taking pictures, writing books, being a parent. I love having something to look forward to,'' he said with a warm smile.

Mr. Stallard brings a lot of talent and experience to The Olympic Club with his aura of positive energy and physical stamina.

He answered a few introspective questions about the club.

What motivated you to open a fitness club? : "This kind of business is what I studied in college which prepared me. Robert Moulder pursued me for several years as a business partner and I realised early on that I am not a jacket and tie guy.'' How would you describe your level of fitness? "Above average for my age of 44. I work out two times a week with free weights and do jiu jitsu with Johnny Bento. I am not obsessed but I try to eat and drink right.'' What makes your club special? "It is the oldest fitness club around which began in 1983.

"It is also the largest and has a lot of natural light. We have friendly staff and clients. People are doing something good for themselves.

"We host the most aerobic classes taught by the best instructors and offer the fairest prices on the Island.'' Will you define Spinning and Guts and Buts routines? "The Spinning class takes the 14 bikes, called Johnny G Spinners, and place them in a circle and every biker rides to music. These are heavy duty bikes and you can increase the tension. They are very popular and you can burn 800 calories per hour.'' "Guts and Buts is working on the abdominals to firm and strengthen the buttocks.'' How do you feel after a strenuous workout? "Euphoric. If people work out at a high intensity they will feel relaxed and calm. They won't feel guilty about eating dinner and they will lower stress.

Health is wealth. When people exercise they are taking care of what they own for their entire lives - their bodies.'' Are you committed to fitness for life? Why? "Yes, otherwise I won't have a life. You have to do it.'' What is the most rewarding aspect of your work at the club? "My personal freedom. I call the shots, make the decision to come and go when needed. I love being around upbeat, healthy people.'' Fitness guru: Scott Stallard enjoys a healthy lifestyle and encourages others to do the same.

Defense at The Olympic Club: Instructor Johnny Bento teaches defense techniques to students.

The Olympic Club conditions champions: Tennis star, Patrick Rafter, resides in Bermuda when he is not playing professional tennis and works out at the club.

He is a two time US Open Champion.
