Staples opens two-day product show

annual product show today at the Princess Hotel, with Technology Minister, E.T. "Bob'' Richards, opening the event.

For the first time, it will be a two day affair and more than 1,000 business leaders have been invited. The show will be opened to the public at 3 p.m.

Staples chairman, Bill Midon said it was fitting that the Minister open the show this year because of the firm's focus on new and future trends in the office due to enhanced technology.

Logic Communications, a strategic partner in networked products for Staples, is also participating in the show.

The event is expected to focus on topics such as: paper file conversions; the integration of paper and digital files; document and image system management; remote transmission and printing capabilities; the integration of Internet and networked data; and, low cost colour printing for the education, hospitality and religious markets.

Staples is an authorised dealer for Hewlett Packard and the distributor of Ricoh, Sharp, Ascom Hasler, Standard Register, PFE and Equitrac equipment.

They also distribute 3M products and furniture supplied by S.P. Richards & Co.

will be on display.

ACE SHAREHOLDERS APPROVE STOCK SPLIT BUC ACE shareholders approve stock split Shareholders of Bermuda-based insurer ACE Ltd. have approved a stock split that would divide each ordinary share into three.

The shareholders provided for the stock split by approving a special resolution amending ACE's memorandum of association and articles of association.

Shareholders of record February 17 are eligible to receive certificates representing the additional shares as a result of the stock split. ACE said eligible shareholders would be mailed a certificate on March 2 representing two additional ordinary shares for each ordinary share held. And reflecting that stock split, the board of directors declared a quarterly dividend of eight cents per ordinary share, payable April 17 to shareholders of record March 31.

TELEPHONE COMPANY LAUNCHES INTERNET SITE BUC Telephone company launches Internet site The Bermuda Telephone Co. Ltd. has launched its own Internet site, www.btc.bm, to market the company's services. The company eventually plans on making the site interactive, at which customers can order or get information about various services.

ISLAND GLASS APPOINTS NEW GENERAL MANAGER BUC Island Glass appoints new general manager Island Glass & Metal Co. Ltd. has appointed Michael Smith as general manager of the company. Mr. Smith has worked for Island Glass for the past 10 years in a number of positions. He was responsible for the development and expansion of the custom bath and tub enclosure and mirror department.

Chief Financial Officer Paul Martin has been given the additional responsibility of vice-president of the company and its subsidiary Island Rentals, which is based in Bermuda, and of Turks and Caicos Glass. The company also appointed Terence Reynolds as contracts manager. He is responsible for contracts development for Bermuda and the lower Caribbean.

The company, which began operations in 1980, has a staff of 26 in Bermuda and six in the Turks and Caicos.

WILLIAM RIKER PROMOTED AT RENAISSANCE BUC William Riker promoted at Renaissance RenaissanceRe Holdings Ltd. has promoted William I. Riker to president and chief operating officer of Renaissance Reinsurance Ltd.

Martin J. Merritt has been promoted to vice president and controller and Kevin J. O'Donnell has been promoted to vice president, international underwriting.

TERRA NOVA DECLARES QUARTERLY DIVIDEND BUC Terra Nova declares quarterly dividend The board of directors of Terra Nova (Bermuda) Holdings Ltd. has declared a quarterly dividend of five cents per ordinary share, payable March 27, 1998 to shareholders of record at the close of business on March 6, 1998.
