Thirty retailers are planning to open tomorrow from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. after Mr.

Cox granted them permission. But Mr. Cox sought to clarify his position in a press release yesterday and noted: "the decision to open this Sunday, the last Sunday before Christmas, applies to this year only''.

Mr. Cox's remarks may have been sparked by an article in The Royal Gazette yesterday where Ian Smith, chairman of the retail division of the Chamber of Commerce, revealed some of the plans for next year's event.

"Requests for the same special opening in the future will be dealt with on a year-to-year basis,'' Mr. Cox said.

He also pointed out that a temporary licence is required by store owners wishing to open.

Mr. Smith said the Chamber were clear on Mr. Cox's decision and noted that plans are underway to request the same for next year "unless this Sunday turns out to be a complete dud''.

"Coincidentally some of my family members have received calls from this recruiter in Florida and I have told them to tell him that he still has not gotten back to me,'' she added.

"But he still doesn't call and seems to just move on to the next victim.

"A major flaw with this scheme is that there is absolutely no support. As a distributor I have no one to go to for advice and support "This company is only interested with getting you in, grabbing your money, then moving on to the next person. And I just want to warn Bermudians not to put their money into it.'' Mr. Ernst did not return calls from The Royal Gazette .
