Technicians head out to stricken oil tanker

As repairs are made to the stricken oil tanker off Bermuda, other shipping movements passed without incident this week.

Meyer Travel will be shipping men and material out to the stricken oil tanker British Valour today.

Technicians arrived on the Island yesterday and are scheduled to take a tug out to the Valour which suffered an engine failure on Sunday night.

At 9.10 a.m. the stranded ship was 115 miles southeast of Bermuda and drifting eastward.

Two other tankers arrived and discharged oil without incident this week.

The Iver Express arrived on Sunday and discharged fuel at the Esso docks before departing yesterday.

And the Tambov discharged fuel in Dockyard on Sunday and transferred to Esso docks yesterday.

The car ship Sirius Leader will dock in Hamilton tomorrow.

And the cable ship Maersk Defender is expected to arrive on Friday after a cable-laying operation in Venezuela. The ship is stationed in Bermuda.

Regular shipping was uninterrupted by choppy weather, with the arrival of the Somers Isles at 8 a.m. yesterday.

The ship, carrying some 94 containers of which four were refrigerated, was set to depart on Friday at 3 p.m. Lumber and steel are on board.

The Bermuda Islander is expected to dock in Hamilton tomorrow and depart Friday morning. The ship was carrying 135 containers, of which 18 are refrigerated, 1 45-foot container, a boat and two mobile offices.

And the Oleander arrived from New Jersey on Sunday and departed on Monday morning.

The ship brought 132 dry containers, 33 refrigerated, one mafi, 8 cars and one Bobcat.
