The Bermuda Stock Exchange index continued to flirt around the 1,000 mark yesterday, inching back 1.11 points to close at 998.05.

The market's index was pressured down by Masters Ltd., which fell $2 on volume of 554 to close at $4 and Bermuda Telephone Company Ltd., which fell 25 cents on volume of 1,096 to close at $36.75.
The total share volume of 31,537 was valued at $382,816.75.
Gainers included Bermuda Commercial Bank which moved up $0.125 to an even $5 on a trade of 1,000 shares. Argus Insurance was also up 25 cents to $10.75 on a trade of 9,280.
The other half of the issues trading yesterday were unchanged in price. Those other four included 3,236 Bank of Bermuda shares at $18.50 per share; 13,420 Bank of Butterfield shares at $10.50 each; 2,173 BF&M 9% notes at $9 a share; and 778 Belco shares at $20 apiece.
