According to one of the organisers, Mr. William Spriggs of Successories of Bermuda, 50 percent of the tickets to a black tie banquet at The Princess on September 29, featuring Ms Susan L. Taylor, have been sold.
And he stressed that seats are limited.
Ms Taylor will be addressing the topic "Celebrating The Essence of Success'' at the banquet.
The next day, at St. Paul's Centennial Hall, she will be speaking on the theme "In the Spirit'' which is the title of her motivational editorials in Essence magazine and her new best-selling book.
Ms Taylor's first public appearance in Bermuda comes as Essence magazine celebrates its 25th anniversary.
During the year the magazine has featured Bermuda as a vacation destination in several issues and it has also used the Island as a backdrop for photo shoots, fashion spreads and editorials.
The cost of the Friday night banquet is $125 per person and tables of 10 can be reserved at $115 per person. The Saturday event, which will also feature local singers and dancers, will cost $35 per person.
Tickets for both events, which begin at 8 p.m. each night, can be purchased from 27th Century Boutique or Successories by calling 295-4111.
Partial proceeds from the events will go to the Nurses Education Committee and the Nursing Affairs Committee.
EDUCATOR TO DELIVER KEYNOTE SPEECH CON Educator to deliver keynote speech A leading American mathematics educator will deliver the keynote speech at the Bermuda Council of Teachers of Mathematics meeting next Thursday (September 21).
Dr. Lee V. Stiff, associate professor of Mathematics Education at North Carolina University, will speak about "The Special Need of All Students: The Construction of Meaningful Mathematics''.
An active member of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, Dr. Stiff is known for his "energetic and engaging'' presentation style.
He is also a contributing author to "Heath Mathematics Connections'' which is used in several local primary schools, and author of D.C. Heath's high school mathematics series and new middle school programme, "Windows to Mathematics''.
And Dr. Stiff was a member of the writing team for NCTM's Professional Standards for Teaching Mathematics, an important document designed to set up a broad framework for change in school mathematics in the next decade.
The document has sparked a revolution in mathematics education and has provided guidelines for school mathematics reform.
Dr. Stiff has received numerous awards, including the W.W. Rankin Award for Excellence in Mathematics Education presented by the North Carolina Council of Teachers of Mathematics, and the Reginald V. Blackmon Award for Excellence in Teaching from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
During a sabbatical leave this school year, Dr. Stiff will be teaching mathematics at the University of Ghana in Accra under a Fulbright grant.
