Zacca joins Court of Appeal

Mr. Justice Zacca, who presides over the Court of Appeal for the Cayman Islands, was sworn in at Government House earlier this week.

His appointment brings the number of Justices in Bermuda's Court of Appeal to six with President, Sir James Astwood; Mr. Justice DaCosta; Sir Alan Huggins; Mr. Justice Kempster; and Sir Derek Cons.

Mr. Justice Zacca was born in St. Andrew, Jamaica on July 26, 1931.

He was educated at Kingston College and called to the Bar at Middle Temple in February, 1954.

He was in private practice in Jamaica from 1954 to 1958 when he was appointed as Clerk of Courts.

In 1960, he was appointed Resident Magistrate. Eight years later he became a Puisne Judge, and in 1975 he was appointed Judge of Appeal.

Mr. Justice Zacca became Chief Justice of Jamaica in July, 1985.

Six years later he was made Acting Governor General. And in 1992 he was appointed to the Privy Council.

Mr. Justice Zacca is married to Hope Marguerite Haddad and has two sons and a daughter. His interests include tennis, swimming, and gardening.
